Summerville: The Flower Town in the Pines

Summerville is known as “The Flower Town in the Pines.” For over a century, tourists have congregated in Summerville so they can enjoy spring blossoms in the private and public gardens of the city, especially Azalea Park. Because of the natural beauty and wholesome quality of life, Summerville’s population doubled in the 1980s. Now with a population of approximately 45,000, the city continues to attract families, military personnel, and entrepreneurs, who are all looking for the quality of life that has long since disappeared from many American cities. Summerville’s pleasures and perks extend beyond its scenery and thriving economy; residents and visitors will always find something fun to do. As for festivals, Summerville has hosts its annual Flowerton Festival, which is the largest arts and crafts festival in South Carolina. And there are many year-round attractions as well such as Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, the Colonial Dorchester State Historic Site, Velocity Air Sports, and Frankie’s Fun Park. With all of these activities, Summerville is the perfect place for families of all sizes to settle down.
