Experience the Classic Tale of the Elephant Man Performing Live Onstage

Experience the award-winning play The Elephant Man performing live at the Threshold Repertory Theater! This monumental tale written by the renowned playwright Bernard Pomerance has been produced for a special run of shows, bringing the tragic historical figure to the stage in North Charleston.

The Elephant Man is based on the life of John Merrick, who lived in London during the latter part of the nineteenth century. The victim of rare skin and bone diseases that have deformed his appearance, he has become the star freak attraction in travelling side shows. After being abandoned he is admitted to London’s prestigious Whitechapel hospital and put in the care of celebrated young physician Frederick Treves, who introduces Merrick to London society. The story of Merrick’s evolution from an object of pity to an urbane and witty favorite of the aristocracy is as captivating as it is tragic, and the play is an iconic example of the outsider’s struggle for acceptance. Winner of numerous Tony Awards including Best Play, The Elephant Man is a groundbreaking show that is a must-see for every theater lover!
