Take a Peek Inside History During Last Rites, a Drama That Will Spark Some New Perspective

Last Rites, it's the second day of the Detroit riots, in the summer of 1967. In the epicenter of the riot, three people take refuge from the chaos in a gas station. As the violence mounts outside, tensions rise inside as the three consider the harsh nature of loss and the inevitable combustibility of their differences.
The Detroit Riot of 1967 series of violent confrontations between residents of predominantly African American neighborhoods of Detroit and the city’s police department that began on July 23, 1967, and it lasted five days. The riot resulted in the deaths of 43 people. Many other people were injured, more than 7,000 people were arrested, and more than 1,000 buildings were burned in the uprising. The riot is considered one of the catalysts of the militant Black Power movement.
Last Rites considers both the sparks that ignited the violence and the embers that still burn amid the ashes today. The play is written and directed by Randy Neale.
Tickets for Last Rites start at $32 and are available to purchase at puretheatre.org.
